The Nora Highball Cocktail Recipe

When we returned from the hospital on November 4th, it felt like high time for a drink.

One of us had been waiting for one for 9 months, nine hot, uncomfortable, tired and tiring months. Then she had to wait another week. Then, she endured five days of contractions to the point of utter exhaustion and excruciating pain. Somehow, all of this hardship proved worth it that miraculous moment when our baby girl was born. We spent the minimum amount of time being poked, prodded, and examined at the hospital, and made our way home for a celebratory round of beverages.

Baby girl had the same thing she had every two hours for approximately an eternity–‘From start to start?’ we asked incredulously. Momma had been thinking long and hard about what her first cocktail was going to be, and though there were many options in the end she felt like you couldn’t go wrong with our favorite classic, the Negroni. Daddy did what he usually does for special occasions like this and made up a drink on the spot; both he and Grandma decided it’s a keeper, just like the little girl it’s named after.

When we were in California for the holidays, we threw a little happy hour to introduce the new addition to the extended family–new additions, we should say, since there were actually three new baby cousins in the family this year. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate drink for this party than the Nora Highball, re-christened the Cousins’ Cocktail for the occasion.
