Summer Drink Cocktail Recipe: White After Memorial Day
Having dabbled with the Ramos Gin Fizz for New Orleans week, as we turned to summer we found ourselves wanting more of its light, bright, frothiness. Not that the original is by any means a cold weather drink, we decided to turn up the temperature even more, giving this fizz a downright tropical feel with rum and falernum in place of gin and orange blossom water.
The key to this drink, like with the Ramos Gin Fizz, is to shake as long as you possibly can, or even longer. Use the buddy system if you have to. It’s what gives the whole drink that airiness you’re looking for, and puts a nice head of froth on the top.
Ingredients
- 2 oz aged rum
- 3/4 tsp falernum
- 1 oz heavy cream
- 1/2 oz orange juice
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- 1/2 oz orgeat
- 1 egg white
- 2-3 oz club soda
Instructions
- Shake all but club soda in a cocktail shaker without ice.
- Add ice and keep shaking, longer than you think you can, at least a minute but two if you can, until frothy.
- Strain into a highball or collins glass.
- Slowly add seltzer until the meringue peeks above the rim.
