Negroni Week!
We were recently remarking on the proliferation of new ‘holidays.’ Things seem to be getting a little crazy. I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as Sibling Day until my sister, who’s more up on these things than I, posted a cute childhood picture of the two of us on Facebook. What does it even mean that asthma and data security each have their own days? How are we supposed to keep track of these things?
This week, though, is a fake holiday that we’re happy to celebrate. In fact, how dare you call it fake? It’s a week-long, all-out festival in honor of our favorite cocktail, the Negroni. From now until Monday, 5500 restaurants around the world will be serving their take on the classic negroni, with a portion of the proceeds going to selected charitable organizations. Last year, $320,000 was raised. Not bad, but we can do better. All it takes is a few more of us drinking a few more delicious cocktails.
Go here to find participating venues, and perhaps we’ll see you at your neighborhood Negroni Week participant.
Don’t have a participating cocktail venue near you? Don’t fear. In honor of this very special week (Don’t mock our holiday!) we’ll be posting some of our own Negroni variations right here. Make your Negroni at home, and contribute to your favorite charity as you sip; it’s perfectly legitimate to do your Negroni Week celebrations in the privacy of your home, as well as out in public.
The Federal Negroni Cocktail Recipe
Today’s recipe is pretty close to the classic, but more luxurious, and made completely from the creations of local, DC craft distillers. It was actually published by Edible DC; so we’ll send you over there for the recipe details: The Federal Negroni cocktail recipe.
