Mocktail Week: Strawberry Mint Agua Fresca Mocktail Recipe
There are a lot of good reasons why someone at a party might not be drinking alcohol: they’re pregnant, or a recovering alcoholic, or are trying to slow down their consumption, or just don’t like the stuff or suddenly realize that it’s summer and are perpetually thirsty (and maybe using cocktails as hydration isn’t the best life choice). We want to put an adult beverage in their hand too, even if that adult beverage contains no alcohol. That’s put us on a quest for interesting mocktails. This week we’ll be sharing some of what we’ve discovered. Say you’re not one of those people who aren’t drinking. Maybe you have a friend who does; make it for their sake. And, for you, we’ll give a suggestion of a good spirit for spiking each day’s recipe.
It’s Mocktail Week, and this definitely needs to be put on your summer drinking list. Scratch that, it needs to be made not just sometime during summer, but right now, when strawberry season is bursting, juicy, red, and sweet. We’ve mentioned a time or two (probably one two many times for your interest) that we ‘just’ moved from Boston (now approaching a year). But during our dozen plus years there we learned to celebrate June and the plethora of farms that kickoff the season by swinging open their doors with Strawberry Festivals. We’re not in Boston anymore (yikes, that’s two mentions just in this post!), and strawberry season in D.C. began in late April, but nonetheless this drink has been the perfect accompaniment for warm weather and local produce!
While the mint, lime, and strawberry, are ingredients not to be overlooked, what really makes this drink is the…ice! There is something disproportionately magical about blending good ingredients with ice. You only use a bit of ice and it’s mainly to chill the drink but it’s just enough to create that beloved cold-summer-drink feel. It’s a light tasting, slightly sweet, summer drink with a nice hint of tang from the lime and complexity from the mint. Make it for you, your significant other, and or your child.
