Holy Mocktail Week: Laura’s Drink

Holy Mocktail Week: Laura’s Drink

Holy Mocktail Week: Laura’s Drink

March. I always find it one of the roughest. It lacks federal holidays and seems to have sooo many more days than February. It’s the epitome of in-between. With temperatures getting warmer, but that sharp-winter chill still hanging on with everything it has. This March was even more dire because it was proceeded by an unseasonably sad January and February, at least for those who lean left politically. The world felt dire enough that Lent seemed to call for the extreme.

Fasting from alcohol.

It’s the worst, and I don’t recommend it. But it’s good to know I can in fact go without. And now it’s Holy Week. So we’ll celebrate the end that’s now in sight and share some of our favorite mocktails, in case you too have practiced the terror of temperance.

For feeling pretty confident in our cocktail-making, mocktail making was a surprising challenge. It never ceased to amaze us just how hard it was to create something with balance and depth and sophistication. We had a number or five that tasted like juice concoctions you might serve at your seven-year old’s play date. This drink, created by my coworker, who conveniently  had also given up alcohol for Lent, is lovely and it’s key is: a lot of lime. The lime creates that pucker-your-cheeks-tang; the blood orange provides some sweetness and lovely flavor; and the club cuts it all just right.
