Election Drinks: I’m With Her Cocktail Recipe

I’m With Her Cocktail Recipe

We’re now counting down the days to the election. Regardless of your affiliation, regardless of whether you’re a professional politician who’s put your all into this for the past 18 months or you’ve been trying your hardest not to get pulled in, regardless of whether you’re optimistic or expecting the end of the world as we know it, you’re probably more than ready to get the thing over with already. And you’re probably going to need a drink or five to get through it. We’re here for you, with our five drink election night menu.

We start with a signature cocktail for the Democratic nominee for president. The most remarkable thing about Hillary Clinton is her staying power. While she inspires devotion in some circles, she brings out a strong, visceral dislike in a significantly larger circle; and yet here she remains. Given that, we think the perfect jumping off point for a cocktail to represent her campaign is fernet, the brazenly medicinal Italian liqueur. Fernet always has its fans, is consistently highly regarded, and is one of those liquors that is always being touted as on a comeback, despite the fact that its aggressively intense herbal mix makes most people spit out with a ‘Why would you do that to me?’ look on their faces.

Fifty percent of Roberts & June found this to be a solid, interesting drink, if not necessarily what you’d call a crowd pleaser. The other 50% thought one sip was more than enough. That seems about right.
