Derby Day Cocktail Recipe: Bourbon Daisy
Welcome to the Friday of an aggressive week of ‘days.’ This week, we’ve already covered the fact that it’s Mother’s Day (make this perfect cocktail for your mom), and Cinco de Mayo, and Kentucky Derby week. If you’re still recovering from one too many of these or these Cinco de Mayo drinks, you can think of today as a breather day…if only to get ready for Derby Day tomorrow.
The mint julep is, of course, the most famous of Derby cocktails; and it’s so easy to make by the pitcher that you should definitely make it by the pitcher. But we wanted to spruce up Derby Day with a more modern and floral spin. Plus, the reality is that a decent handful of people don’t really like mint. We think this is bizarre too, but in case you or some of your friends fall into this category, we have you covered with the Bourbon Daisy.
We first sipped this delicious drink at the Claremont speakeasy, the Whisper House. The almond flavor from the orgeat syrup comes through quite nicely. The lemon brightens all the flavors, and the maraschino adds the nicest touch of complexity. Also, this cocktail’s name is just adorable. Serve with some real daisies to up the cute factor. It will go so nicely with pearls and a large hat.
