Negroni Week 2: Wisdom + Chris’ Negroni Cocktail Recipe
Last week, while we were posting our own Negroni recipes, we were out on the town tasting what other people were offering for Negroni Week.
Wisdom is our neighborhood gin bar, and they offered four different Negronis, each with a different gin, each designed by a different bartenders. All four looked quite interesting, but I could only have one; so I asked my bartender for a suggestion. He spoke well of all four of them, but also mentioned that since he was Chris, he wouldn’t mind if I gave Chris’ a try.
What I Ordered
Chris’ Negroni: London No. 1 Gin, Campari, pear cognac, lemon juice
What I Thought
There are few things on which I’m a fundamentalist, but Negroni proportions is one of them; so I was a little suspicious when I saw that there were four ingredients instead of three, and then further found out that the proportions weren’t equal. But maybe Chris has made me a pragmatist on this as well, because the drink was delicious. I like pear brandy, but have a hard time finding good ways to use it; it can be a little intense. The same can be said of Campari. But in this drink the Campari and the pear brandy softened each other nicely, without either one being obliterated. It was a great, light tasting summer drink, even if the fundamentalist in me might still say it’s a stretch as a Negroni.
