Mocktail Week: Guest post by Element Shrub + the Officially Summer Mocktail Recipe

We mentioned before that one of our inspirations in the art of making interesting mocktails is our fellow Union Kitchen member Element Shrub. While we’ve been experimenting with our own shrubs, we thought mocktail week would be a good time to also hear from the master himself, Charlie Berkinshaw of Element Shrub. They stumbled into the beauties of shrub making when Charlie’s pregnant wife was disastified with the mocktail options available. Their shrubs are so interesting, so fresh, and so worth every cent. You only ever need a little; so one bottle will last you for many drinks.

If you like the recipe, head on over to their blog for their fresh and creative shrubs, more mocktail ideas, and of course to find out where you can get your hands on some of their delicious shrub. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

My (pregnant) wife has been craving (watermelon)(watermelon)(watermelon) lately so we fixed up this mocktail that we are calling “officially summer.” This one doesn’t have any alcohol in it, but if you feel like you want/need to try this with tequila or vodka, we are not gonna stop you. (wink)(sun)(sunglasses)

Ingredients

  • 3 oz fresh watermelon juice
  • 1/2 oz Element honeydew jalapeno shrub
  • 1/2 oz Fevertree ginger beer
  • slice of fresh jalapeno pepper (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Combine all liquid ingredients in an old fashioned glass.
  • Fill glass with ice.
  • Garnish with jalapeno

Spike of Choice

2 oz tequila or vodka
